War will affect HK's economy: Stephen Ip
*

The possible war between the United States and Iraq will inevitably affect Hong Kong's economy, Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip said.

In response to media enquiries on the impact of the US's possible military action against Iraq, Mr Ip said the war would cause a rise in oil prices, affect the international economy and Hong Kong's export and tourism.

The shorter the war, the smaller the adverse effect on Hong Kong, he added.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Tsang Yam-pui said the force has enhanced its precautionary measures at the airport and a number of consulates.

However, he stressed that Hong Kong is a safe city at this stage, adding that it is not the target of terror attacks.

He believes that there is no need for Hong Kong people to change their present lifestyle.

The Police have issued guidelines on handling terrorism to its staff and concerned organisations, Mr Tsang said, adding that the Security Bureau will issue safety guidelines to members of the public soon.
