A 42-year old security guard was killed in a robbery in Kwai Chung yesterday afternoon.

The man had collected a cash box containing $800,000 from Sun Kwai Hing Plaza and he and another guard were on their way to a cash escort vehicle at about 3.20pm.

As they were leaving a lift on the ground floor, four to five men armed with knives, axes and a pistol-like object ambushed them.

The thugs seriously injured the guard with the cash box. They snatched it and fled.

The injured man was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital where he was certified dead at 6.32pm.

The empty cash box was later found in the plaza's ground floor lift lobby.

The Regional Crime Unit of New Territories South is investigating. They urge anyone who might have witnessed the incident to contact them on 2631 8409.
