Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing congratulated Hong Kong athletes for gaining 13 more medals, including two gold, in today's East Asian Games.
"Hong Kong athletes have achieved remarkable results. I encourage them to continue to work hard and strive for excellence," he said. The day ended with a haul of two gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
Artistic cyclists Yu Sum-yee and Lo Tin-hin snatched the gold in the men's pair by beating their teammates Ip Hin-bon and Yu Po-man, who settled for the silver.
The table tennis mixed-doubles final was an all-Hong Kong affair which eventually saw Ko Lai-chak and Tie Ya-na winning 11-2, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6 over Tang Peng and Jiang Hua-jun.
Other silver medals came from men's cycle ball (Chui Chun-to, Ho Wing-tai and Lo Man-fai), artistic cycling women's singles (Tsang Yu-sum), Taekwondo men's 62kg (Poon Chun-ho), bowling men's singles (Wu Siu-hong), and the women's swimming 4x200m freestyle relay (Au Hoi-shun, Kong Man-yi, Sze Hang-yu and Hannah Wilson).
The bronze medallists were Lo Wai-man in artistic cycling women's singles, Yeung Tsz-wing in Taekwondo men's 72kg, Lin Ling and Zhang Rui in table tennis women's doubles and Cheung Yuk in table tennis men's singles.
Hong Kong's medal tally stands at eight gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze.
