Western Harbour Tunnel tolls to rise
*

Western Harbour Crossing tolls for all vehicles will rise on  August 1.

The franchisee has notified the Government of its decision to exercise its right to effect a statutory toll increase. The new statutory tolls were gazetted today and come into effect on July 31.

The franchisee will also adjust toll concessions to raise the actual toll levels. The new concessionary tolls will take effect on August 1.

The actual toll for private cars and taxis will rise $5 to $50 and $45. The toll for minibuses will rise to $60, and to $90 and $128 for single- and double-deck buses.

The toll for motorcycles will rise to $23 while that for light, medium and heavy goods vehicles will rise to $60, $85 and $115.

Under the toll-adjustment mechanism the franchisee is entitled to increase the statutory tolls when its actual net revenue falls short of the estimated level specified in the law. The company can also decide on the concessions offered to motorists.

The Transport & Housing Bureau said it has all along urged the franchisee to have due regard to public affordability and acceptability in devising its toll strategy, including postponing toll adjustments and maintaining concessionary tolls.
