The Port Control (Public Cargo Working Areas) Order 2010, which declares the new boundaries of the Western District Public Cargo Working Area, was gazetted today.
The Order, made by the Secretary for Transport & Housing, will be tabled at the Legislative Council on July 14 and be effective from November 13.
A portion of the public cargo working area, measuring 7,500 square metres, is needed as a barging point for transporting excavated materials from the construction of the West Island Line to government reception facilities.
The cargo operations in the area will not be affected and the relevant site is expected to revert to being part of the public cargo working area in August 2014.
With the revised boundaries, the working area will occupy a total area of 32,700 square metres with a usable seafrontage of 880 metres.
