Part of 49 Ma Tau Wai Rd reopens
*
Buildings Department

A shop on the ground floor and first floor, as well as a flat on each of the second to fifth floors of 49 Ma Tau Wai Road reopened at 1pm today.

The Buildings Department said today the loose and most dangerous parts of 45H have been removed, such as balconies from the first to fourth floors, and the seriously damaged portion facing Ma Tau Road on the third and fourth floors. The adjacent buildings are structurally safe, including the one at number 49.

The buildings at 45E and 45F, which are temporarily closed for the emergency works, will remain closed until the adjoining buildings at 45G and 45H are declared safe. If 45G and 45H need to be demolished, 45E and 45F will remain closed until the demolition works are complete.

Depending on the actual condition of the buildings at 45G and 45H, department officers will try to inspect the premises. Detailed inspection, assessment and analysis will take several days.

If it is dangerous for residents to move around or move anything inside the buildings at 45G and 45H, the department will co-ordinate with other departments and arrange for them to get back their belongs after the demolition.

No works at the site will be conducted during the Lunar New Year holidays but department staff will monitor 45H and the buildings nearby.
