Tenant purchase scheme lifts declared safe
*
Electrical & Mechanical Services Department

All 1,404 lifts in 39 housing estates under the Tenant Purchase Scheme are safe, according to an Electrical & Mechanical Services Department audit inspection.

The department told the estates' registered contractors in January to check all lifts under their management. It conducted a 100% audit inspection which was completed on March 30.

Minor defects like the rusting of metal components, unsmooth lift-door operation, or ineffective overload displays were detected during the inspection. Contractors have been issued letters instructing them to make improvements.

The contractors replaced the suspension cables of 153 lifts in the 32 estates during their check from January to March. Cable replacement will continue as part of the routine maintenance work.
