$465m sought for greening projects

*

The Development Bureau is seeking $464.7 million for greening works in seven districts.

The works include planting 11,500 trees and 2.69 million shrubs; ground preparation, soil improvement and tree mounting fixture installation; construction of associated raised and kerb planters and other landscape works; and, ancillary works like irrigation facilities.

The works will be in Western, Southern, Eastern, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin and Kwun Tong Districts, and will create 309 jobs for labourers and 51 for professional or technical staff.

The bureau will seek funding approval from the Legislative Council's Public Works Sub-committee and Finance Committee in April and May.

The proposed works will start in September for completion in 2011, followed by a one-year establishment period.
