Kowloon Park to stage Olympics countdown
*

A series of activities will be held in Kowloon Park in Tsim Sha Tsui on August 8 to mark the two-year countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The events, including a variety show, a community participation carnival and a panel exhibition, will welcome Beijing's hosting of the Olympics and celebrate Hong Kong's honour of staging the Games' equestrian events.

It will include a launch ceremony at 7pm and a ceremony at 8pm to mark the two-year countdown to the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games on August 8, 2008.

Television Broadcasts Limited will produce the show and broadcast the highlights on its Jade channel that night from 11.05pm to 11.35pm. The full show will be broadcast the following Saturday, August 12, from 1.15pm to 2.15pm.

A games stall carnival will be staged in the park from 3.30pm to 6.30pm on August 8.

Tickets for the games stalls can be obtained from the Public Enquiry Service Centre of the District Offices on a first-come, first-served basis. Some tickets will also be available at the carnival on that day. Enquiries can be made on 2594 5687.

Exhibit to include Internet access

The Olympic Games exhibition will be held daily from August 6 to August 13, from 9am to 8pm next to the indoor pools.

Visitors will be able to use the computer kiosks installed at the exhibition to surf for information on the Beijing Olympics, the 2009 East Asian Games and related websites. Olympic memorabilia, such as mascots, first day covers and pins, will also be displayed.

Enquiries can be made at 2594 6641.
