Going up-market: The new Tai Kok Tsui market boasts modern conveniences aimed to enhance visitors' shopping experience. |
|
The new Tai Kok Tsui market, designed to minimise direct contact between customers and live poultry, will be open this Thursday, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department says.
All poultry stalls are operated separately from other stalls with dedicated access and ventilation systems. Each poultry stall has its own retail section, scalding room and live poultry section.
Segregating birds from humans will reduce the risk of contracting avian flu, the department said.
Located inside the Tai Kok Tsui Municipal Complex at 63 Fuk Tsun Street, the three-storey air-conditioned market occupies 7,000 square metres and is equipped with modern conveniences.
Each fresh meat stall is provided with a bench, retractable hanging rails for displaying fresh meat and a sink.
Fish stalls have full-length display trays with large wash-up sinks. Anti-splash guards help keep the common passageway dry.
Patron rewards on Dec 1-3
To attract customers, the department will launch a three-day promotion. From December 1 to 3, from 10am to 11am and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, market goers who sign up to show their support will be offered a gift.
The Tai Kok Tsui Municipal Complex also has a public library, indoor games hall, swimming pool and activity rooms managed by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department.
With the opening of the new market, the Tai Kok Tsui temporary market, the Boundary Street market and the Tai Kok Tsui temporary cooked food hawker bazaar will be closed after business hours on Wednesday.
