Health chief makes drug safety plea

*
Department of Health

Director of Health Dr Lam Ping-yan has called on group medical practices to check the identity and integrity of the drugs they order before accepting them.

Addressing a meeting at the Public Health Laboratory Centre in Sham Shui Po today, Dr Lam reminded practices to comply with legal requirements on drug regulation.

He said practices should sign and return transaction documents to their drug suppliers, and keep a proper record of the drugs they possess and prescriptions.

The meeting was organised after the Department of Health found some practices administered unregistered flu vaccines of unknown source recently.

Dr Lam said only companies holding wholesaler, manufacturer or pharmacy licences were entitled to provide pharmaceutical products to medical practioners. Supply of unregistered pharmaceutical products is an offence.
