As at 1pm today, 28 new patients with atypical pneumonia symptoms were admitted to public hospitals. A total of 154 patients have recovered from atypical pneumonia and have been discharged from public hospitals. Of them, 12 were sent home today.
The new patients include 12 healthcare workers (including nine more from Princess Margaret Hospital, one from Prince of Wales Hospital, one from Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and one from Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and one new patient from Amoy Gardens.
The remaining 15 were new patients and contacts of patients with atypical pneumonia.
Almost a third of the total number of cases are from Amoy Gardens. About half of the estate's 289 infected residents live in Block E.
Most of the patients currently in hospital are showing positive responses to the new treatment protocol, a combination of the anti-viral drug Ribavirin and steroids.
Of the 814 patients still in hospital, 120 - less than 15% - are receiving treatment in the intensive-care unit.
Three people, a 63-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman - both with other chronic illnesses - and a 46-year-old woman died in the last day. Their deaths bring to 30 the total number of deaths relating to atypical pneumonia. This represents a mortality rate of 3%.
