There was a single new SARS case reported in the last 24 hours, marking the 38th day in a row the number of new cases has remained in single digits.
The new patient is a 65-year-old man from Wing Shui House, Lek Yuen Estate. A family member had earlier been confirmed as having SARS. The was admitted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital on May 23 and is now in stable condition. No other SARS cases in connection with Wing Shui House have since been reported.
A total of 1,368 patients - nearly 78% of the total number of confirmed cases - have recovered and been discharged from public hospitals. Of them, three were sent home today.
There were two fatalities, a 98-year-old woman at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, and an 88-year-old woman at Tuen Mun Hospital, bringing the total number of SARS-related deaths to 290.
Most of the 62 patients currently under active treatment in hospital are responding positively to the new treatment protocol. Of them, 17 are in intensive care.
Another 34 patients are recovering in convalescence, in preparation for discharge. There is one suspected case.
Five passengers at boundary checkpoints failed the initial temperature check. Four of them were allowed to continue their journeys after a second check showed they were not suffering from SARS symptoms. One passenger was sent to hospital for observation.
