Wind Forecast for Wind Surfers website

Sail solution: Hong Kong Observatory's new website provides the latest weather data at 10 windsurfing hotspots.

*

Hong Kong Observatory has launched a new website providing the latest weather data at 10 windsurfing hotspots. The information includes wind direction and speed, and real-time observations from nearby weather stations.

Observatory Senior Scientific Officer Lau Sum-yee said the new service came about due to the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. Site and time-specific forecasts for various hotspots are generated from the same high-resolution computer model the Observatory developed and deployed during the games.

Windsurfing Association Vice-President James Chik and Wind Chasers' founder Caxton Li hailed the service, saying the information meets windsurfers' needs.
