Energy efficiency labelling scheme to launch
*

The initial phase of the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme will be fully launched from November 9. Room air-conditioners, refrigerating appliances and compact fluorescent lamps must carry energy labels before they are supplied to the local market.

The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department will conduct inspections at retail shops to monitor compliance with the ordinance.

Anyone who supplies a prescribed product which does not properly bear an energy label or is not of a listed model will commit an offence under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance and is liable to a fine of $100,000.

The energy label classifies energy performance into five grades. Products with grade one energy labels are among the most energy efficient on the market. For more information click here.
