Clean energy to bring 'boundless opportunities'
*

The development of renewable energy technology encompasses challenges as well as boundless opportunities, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation & Technology Andrew Lai says.

Launching the 2009 Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events today, Mr Lai said renewable energy like solar, wind and hydro power is inexhaustible and will greatly reduce pollution.

He said the Government will promote the development of innovation and technology through funding support, support facilities and incubation programmes. It will also enhance public understanding and interest in the subject through various activities.

Noting the need for more talent for research into and development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong, he encouraged youngsters to have confidence in themselves.

This year's competition saw a record total of 477 teams and more than 1,500 participants. It featured a solar model car race and solar-hydrogen powered hybrid model hovercraft race, a remote-control renewable energy-hydrogen powered hybrid model boat race, a Sterling engine race as well as video capture and website design.
