Eye on the storm: From this month, the tropical cyclone track on the Hong Kong Observatory's website will be updated hourly whenever Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or above is in force.

From this month, the tropical cyclone track on the Hong Kong Observatory's website will be updated hourly whenever Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or above is in force. The cyclone warning for shipping will also be made available in Chinese.

The cyclone track will be uploaded here, while the Chinese version for shipping will be available here.

The observatory said increasing the update frequency of the cyclone track on the website from three hours to hourly will make it easier for the public to obtain the latest information on the intensity and movement of the storm.

The observatory has been issuing the cyclone warning for shipping in English since the early 1950s. It provides mariners with a wide range of information, including analysis and forecast of the location, intensity and movement of the cyclone as well as wind and wave information in its vicinity.

The Chinese version, which will be issued once a cyclone is in the vicinity of Hong Kong and updated every three hours, will facilitate shipping staff, mariners and members of the public who operate in Chinese.
