Thirty-nine convictions were recorded in January for breaches of the Environmental Protection Department's anti-pollution legislation.

There were 15 convictions for air pollution, 10 for waste disposal offences, nine for water pollution and five for noise offences.

The heaviest fine was $25,000, against a company that contravened the provisions of a licence.
