October sunnier and drier than usual
*

October was sunnier and much drier than usual, with 223.7 hours of, or 15% more, bright sunshine.

The month was cooler recording a low of 19.9 degrees on October 15, down from 29.8 degrees on October 2, the month's hottest day.

The monthly rainfall of 48.6mm was only about one-third the normal figure of 144.8mm.

It was fine and sunny in the first three days of the month. But a weak cold front then crossed the south China coast, bringing four days of cooler weather.

Clouds associated with an area of low pressure over the South China Sea drifted in on October 10, bringing rain and thunderstorms for two days.

The dry continental air associated with the northeast monsoon cleared the clouds on October 16, bringing fine and dry weather for the rest of the month.
