Noise barriers could soon be retrofitted to sections of Fanling Highway near Choi Yuen Estate, Sheung Shui and near Fanling Centre.
The Government gazetted proposals for the retrofit today, and works are aimed to start early next year for completion in late 2005.
The works comprise the construction of 600 metres of vertical noise barriers on both sides of the flyover carrying Fanling Highway eastbound near Po Shek Wu Road, and about 1,700 metres of cantilever noise barriers along the central divider and the verge on both sides of Fanling Highway near Choi Yuen Estate.
For the section near Fanling Centre, 950 metres of cantilever noise barriers have been suggested for the central divider and the verge on the eastbound carriageway of Fanling Highway.
