The Forbes Global CEO Conference 2004 and 'Best under a Billion' award dinner, both to be held in Hong Kong, will give the international community a key message that Hong Kong is back to business, safe and vibrant, the Financial Secretary says.
At the Forbes contract-signing ceremony this afternoon, Antony Leung thanked Forbes for their confidence in Hong Kong.
The conference will be held next spring while the dinner is set for this November.
The prestigious business conferences also represent a major contribution to Hong Kong's ongoing efforts to reassure investors, traders and tourists around the world and to welcome them back to Hong Kong, Mr Leung said.
The move will encourage us to work harder to strengthen attributes that make Hong Kong the preferred location for international businesses, he added.
HK an ideal place for world business leaders
Forbes Inc. President Steve Forbes noted that Hong Kong was also the host city last year.
He said: "Hong Kong, the gateway to China and the region, and a model to other economies for its low income-tax rate regime, is an ideal location to bring together business leaders from around the world."
Mr Forbes pointed out that Hong Kong's forward-looking attitude helps overcome crises like the SARS outbreak and focus on the future.
He also shared the Hong Kong spirit, that is never let up when fighting obstacles.
Forbes US forum to promote HK's advantages
Director-General of Investment Promotion Mike Rowse said the Forbes Global CEO Conference, the most prestigious and recognised event of its kind, provides an ideal opportunity to raise Hong Kong's international profile.
To promote Hong Kong's advantages to CEOs and leading business executives in the US, Invest Hong Kong will sponsor the Forbes US 2003 CEO Forum to be held in Virginia in early October.
On Article 23 of the Basic Law, Mr Forbes said how it is enacted and interpreted is absolutely critical. Mr Rowse invited him to visit Hong Kong every two years to monitor how freedom is preserved after the law's enactment.
New batch of Hello from HK postcards ready
Mr Rowse also announced that a new batch of Hello from Hong Kong postcards are ready. The public may send the cards to relatives and friends to let them know that Hong Kong is firmly on the road to relaunch the economy.
The new message reads: "There's plenty to smile about in Hong Kong - so why not come and visit us. See you soon!"
The postage-prepaid, free postcards are available from all post offices and district offices.
