Transport scheme review out soon
*

The Financial Secretary will announce in his Budget tomorrow the results of the review of the the pilot Transport Support Scheme, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung says.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a Tin Shui Wai job fair, Mr Cheung said the scheme's effectiveness has been reviewed in response to requests to cover more people.

Launched in June last year, the scheme provides a cross-district transport allowance of $600 a month for eligible low-income and unemployed people living in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, North and Islands districts.

Mr Cheung stressed the Government attaches importance to providing employment assistance for residents in remote districts, including organising large-scale recruitment activities in Tin Shui Wai.

The two-day job fair provides more than 2,600 vacancies. Almost half of them come from northwest New Territories or Tung Chung.
