Two handbooks to help secondary five graduates prepare for the release of Certificate of Education Examination results will be rolled out on July 20, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.
Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates 2006-2007 and Handbook for Secondary 5 Students: In Pursuit of Job and Continuing Learning Opportunities, compiled jointly by the bureau, the Labour Department and the Association of Careers Masters & Guidance Masters, offer comprehensive information on further studies, vocational training and careers paths.
Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates 2006-2007 outlines the Secondary Six Admission Procedure 2006, which will start from August 9 when the HKCEE results are released, and provides details of S6 courses being offered by secondary schools.
It also introduces the Secondary Six Joint Admission Scheme and offers information about the schools counting the careers-oriented course scores in the S6 admission procedure.
Myriad choices described
Students can also find information about the study path for S5 graduates, courses for repeaters, professional and vocational training courses, sub-degree courses, Project Yi Jin and studying abroad inside the handbook.
Handbook for Secondary 5 Students: In Pursuit of Job and Continuing Learning Opportunities is focused on the transition from school to work. It provides tips on choosing a career and starting a job search, and information on the job market.
It also outlines the Labour Department's free employment services - the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and the Youth Work Experience & Training Scheme - as well as vocational training and continuing learning opportunities.
Students can obtain the two handbooks for free from their own schools, the Education & Manpower Bureau's regional education offices, the Labour Department's careers information centres and job Centres, or the Home Affairs Department's public enquiry service centres.
