The Further Studies Resources Centre at Sheung Shui in New Territories will close on September 1.
With the easy accessibility to information on further studies on the Internet and increasing advisory services provided by foreign governments, the centre - at Room 1815, 18/F, Landmark North, 39 Lung Sum Avenue - has seen a decline in use in recent years.
Taking into consideration the changing needs of the public and cost-effectiveness, the Education & Manpower Bureau will replace the centre with services through its webpage on further studies at www.emb.gov.hk/cgs.
The webpage contains information on both local and overseas further studies as well as vocational training opportunities. An e-mail enquiry service is also available. Through the enhanced web services, the public can obtain information at any time.
Bureau to hold seminars for parents, students
The bureau will also hold regular seminars and talks with various overseas education organisations for parents and students. Display panels aimed at providing students with information on study opportunities abroad will be lent to schools.
As advisory services provided by Governments of foreign countries have been on the increase in recent years, students who are seeking further education overseas may consider using these services. Details of the major organisations are as follows:
* Australian Consulate General - Education Section, www.studyinaustralia.gov.au
* British Council, www.britishcouncil.org.hk/education
* Canadian Education Centre, www.studycanada.ca/hongkong
* Institute of International Education (for study in the US), www.iiehongkong.org
* New Zealand Trade & Enterprise - New Zealand Education Centre, www.study-in-newzealand.org.hk
For enquiries, call the bureau's Careers and Guidance Services Section on 2639 4774.
