As the end of the academic year approaches, many secondary school leavers are sitting down to map out their futures.With these young people in mind, the Hong Kong Central Library's Young Adult Library will hold a series of talks in July and August on career development and further education.
Hong Kong Public Libraries and the Hong Kong Learning Community will jointly present College Career Talks for Secondary Students. Four senior executives from the private sector will share their working experience and brief students on career prospects and entry requirements for their respective fields.
The talks will be held on two consecutive Saturdays, July 19 and July 26, from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Central Library's Lecture Theatre. Details are as follows:
* On July 19, the General Manager of Crown Records Management of Crown Worldwide (HK) Ltd, Sammy Fong, will speak in Cantonese about logistics.
* That same day, Mimi Ho, the Manager of Government and Community Affairs for Microsoft, will talk in Cantonese on IT services.
* On July 26, Bill Ernest, the Managing Director of Operations for Hong Kong Disneyland, will talk in English about the service industry.
* That same day, Alvin Lee, the Director for International Relations & Strategic Policy in the Asia Pacific for AOL Time Warner, will speak in English on the broadcast media. There will be a Cantonese interpretation.
Hong Kong Public Libraries and the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters & Guidance Masters will jointly present another talk - Further Studies for Form 5 Graduates .
It will coach students in preparing for the release of HKCEE results; the five stages of Form 6 admission procedure; how to look for an ideal school; and what to do if their scores are under 14. The talk, conducted in Cantonese, will be held on Friday, August 1 from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Central Library's Lecture Theatre.
Tickets for both talks will be available at the Young Adult Library, 6/F, Hong Kong Central Library, from June 30 onwards. Each participant is entitled to two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.
