Ninety per cent of secondary schools have resumed classes, and 40 more will resume classes later, Deputy Secretary for Education & Manpower Cheng Yan-chee said today.
The Education & Manpower Bureau's officers visited over 400 secondary schools this morning to ensure proper arrangements had been made for class resumption and offer assistance where necessary.
The Bureau was generally satisfied with the arrangements.
"Some schools have taken the initiative to mobilise their Red Cross members to help out taking their schoolmates' temperature," Mr Cheng said.
He also called on parents to play their part and join schools in the fight against atypical pneumonia.
For instance, they should not let their children go to school if they feel unwell, and take their temperature every day before classes.
If their temperature is normal, they have to fill in and sign a record sheet for their kids to hand back to schools.
Also, students should wear their own facemasks and bring tissues.
Mr Cheng said two additional ear thermometers and more probe covers will be allocated to secondary schools this week.
For primary schools, kindergartens and special schools, these items will be provided in batches as soon as possible.
To keep kids and parents abreast of the latest development, a Daily Bulletin on Combating Atypical Pneumonia in Schools will be put on the Bureau's website.
