Job seekers should get more training to enhance their competitiveness and be positive in turning adversity into opportunity.
That's the message from Commissioner for Labour Pamela Tan who said job seekers need to open themselves to new ideas and take note of the latest developments in the employment market.
Mrs Tan made the remarks at the opening of the Education & Careers Expo today.
With the theme Mastering Your Future, the Expo is jointly organised by the Labour Department and the Trade Development Council.
Over 360 exhibitors from various trades, professional bodies, local and overseas education institutes and Government departments are taking part.
It provides updated and comprehensive information on education and employment for students and job seekers.
Visitors can have an in-depth understanding of the job market at careers seminars and video shows on various trades and professions.
Meanwhile, the department will brief visitors on the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme as well as the Youth Work Experience & Training Scheme.
Information on the recently launched Vacancy Search Terminals at its job centres, Interactive Employment Services on the Internet and Careers Information Website are also provided.
The Expo is on at the Convention & Exhibition Centre until February 23, and admission is free.
