| Field trip: Prof Arthur Li visits students in the class room to experience their learning environment firsthand. |
|
Secretary for Education & Manpower Prof Arthur Li visited Holy Trinity College to see the latest development in curriculum reform.
Prof Li sat in on a Home Economics lesson and enjoyed snacks the students prepared. He also skipped rope with students.
He met and exchanged views with school management representatives, teachers, parents and students.
Prof Li observed several classes, including a Form 4 English class, where a "Seed" project on the learning and teaching of language arts takes place.
The project is developed collaboratively by the school, the Education & Manpower Bureau's Curriculum Development Institute and tertiary institutions.
Incorporating language arts, such as poetry, copywriting, scriptwriting, storytelling, songs and jokes into the curriculum, it exposes students to a wider range of styles and text types.
This mode of learning encourages them to be more creative in the use of language.
Professor Li expressed his satisfaction that Seed projects have brought about manifold benefits to learning and teaching in schools.
Launched in 2001 as one of the curriculum-reform initiatives, Seed projects help schools and teachers adopt appropriate teaching strategies.
