Mudslide victims to be mourned
*

Government offices will keep flags at half-mast tomorrow to mourn mudslide victims in Zhouqu, Gansu. The Tourism Commission will also suspend "A Symphony of Lights" tomorrow night.

The Government also calls on the public to express their feelings tomorrow in appropriate ways.

On the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee, the Government has already approved a grant of about $2.44 million from the fund for a non-governmental organisation to provide emergency relief to the victims.

The Government has also proposed to donate $50 million to the Provincial Government of Gansu via the fund to provide relief for the mudslide victims. The Legislative Council Finance Committee Chairman has agreed to convene a special meeting as soon as possible to examine the application.
