John Tsang accepts koala gift from Australia
*

The South Australian government has given Hong Kong two koalas as a friendship token.

South Australian Premier Mike Rann made the offer at a Lunar New Year reception in Adelaide today, hosted by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Sydney.

Financial Secretary John Tsang expressed his gratitude for the marsupial gifts.

"I wish to express my sincere thanks to the people and Government of South Australia for presenting two koalas to us and entrusting Ocean Park to take care of these animals which are the national icon of Australia. The gift signifies the friendship between Hong Kong and South Australia."

He added the park, with its extensive experience and expertise in handling both marine and land animals, will provide a healthy habitat for the koalas which will arrive within two years.
