CE enhancing dialogue with the public

*

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa has begun meetings with legislators and community leaders to strengthen his personal contact with the public, pledging to enhance communication and listen to views on the Government.

Meeting 17 legislators today, Mr Tung said he had very useful discussions with them on matters of public concern, in particular Basic Law Article 23 and constitutional review.

He made it clear that the next round of Article 23 consultation will be a very comprehensive one, with a view to winning maximum support and understanding from the community.

The Government has not set a timetable for the legislative process, he added.

On constitutional review, he said it must be a thorough one. The Government will listen carefully to public views and ensure people have sufficient time to discuss and be consulted on the matter.

Earlier today, Mr Tung met with leaders of various communities and associations on a wide range of topics. He pledged that meetings with the community will continue to hear their concerns.
