Kowloon East – a dynamic area

The district has been transformed from an industrial base into an attractive, alternative central business district, and the Kwun Tong Promenade has achieved its aim of bringing nature to the city.

Pop makeover: Young people perform under the Kwun Tong Bypass flyover, a storage site transformed into a venue for music, art and cultural events.
Green belt: Passersby take a leisurely stroll along the Kwun Tong Promenade.
Uplifting idea: The design of this tower at the Kwun Tong Promenade reflects the cranes used in the recycled paper industry which existed here before the area's redevelopment.
Lantern like: At night, the multipurpose plaza glows with special lighting as mist is emitted from the floor to create a surrealistic atmosphere.
Harbourfront leisure: Youngsters play along the promenade's 200m boardwalk.
Industrial strength: Architects turned used oil barrels into drums to enable passersby to feel the beat.
Sheltered playground: Area under a flyover is transformed into a remote-control car platform.
Pet paradise: The 900m promenade is a perfect place for walking dogs.
Relaxing waves: Thanks to the chairs' special design, visitors can get horizontal and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Scenic respite: People can escape from the busy shopping area nearby to take a rest on the boardwalk.
Pier pleasure: Students visit the Kwun Tong Public pier, which provided many ferry services in bygone days and now offers only one, from Kwun Tong to North Point.
Pallets past: A skateboard player eyes an exhibition regarding the regeneration of Kowloon East, which had been part of the 13th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition in 2012.
What's new: The Energising Kowloon East Office serves as an information kiosk, providing information about the district's transformation.
Model home: People attend a guided tour on Kowloon East's future development.
Eco friendly: The Energising Kowloon East Office uses recycled freight containers, and is Hong Kong's first low-carbon temporary office.
