The Shanghai Yue Opera Group will perform a signature play and new repertoire in Hong Kong next week.
It will stage The Dream of the Red Chamber, the signature Yue opera play which has been performed regularly. The title was once synonymous with Yue opera, which is known for its brilliant lyrical repertoire, which is primarily presented with singing.
Also to be performed is a new version of The Double-pearl Phoenix Hairpin, the classic play telling the boy-meets-girl story of a Ming dynasty first-place scholar and the only daughter of the appointment minister.
The newly written play Bronze Bird Terrace, making its Hong Kong debut, presents the story of Zhen Luo and Cao Zhi.
There will also be a performance of excerpts from various plays.
Presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department as part of the Chinese Opera Festival, the programme will run from August 3 to 5 at the Cultural Centre.
Tickets are now available at URBTIX.
