Roman expo to open

June 07, 2016

The Museum of History will hold a large-scale exhibition showcasing Roman maritime navigation development and the Mount Vesuvius eruption that destroyed Pompeii, through exhibits, multimedia programmes and 3D animation.

The exhibition will run from tomorrow until August 29.

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah officiated at the opening ceremony today. He said the exhibition marks a milestone in collaboration between Hong Kong and Italy, and thanked the Italian Consulate-General for its support.

The exhibition will showcase 110 sets of invaluable exhibits from 10 museums and cultural organisations in Italy.

The exhibits include jewellery made of gold and precious metals and stones, silverware, statues, marble reliefs, artefacts recovered from shipwrecks, and body casts of Pompeii victims.

The exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and co-organised by the Museum of History.
