Pitch perfect

Pitch perfect:  The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform in the Leisure & Cultural Services Department's Great Music 2016 event.

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will present the Great Music 2016 event from April, featuring recitals and concerts by world-class artists and orchestras.

One of the most celebrated violinists of his era, Joshua Bell will collaborate for a recital with pianist Alessio Bax on April 17. The programme will include Vitali's Chaconne in G-minor, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A and Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 in G.

The Philadelphia Orchestra will give two performances on May 19 and 20. The first concert will feature Brahms' Symphony No. 2 and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. The second concert will include Beethoven's String Quartet in F-minor, 'Serioso' (arranged by Mahler) and Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 in E-flat, 'Romantic'.

Acclaimed as an ideal "narrator" of Romantic musical tales, Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos will perform Schumann's Papillons, Brahms' Three Intermezzos and Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 20 in A on July 26.

German violinist Julia Fischer, the Artist of the Year at the 2007 Gramophone Awards, will collaborate with pianist Martin Helmchen for a recital on October 22, featuring Dvorak's Sonatina for Violin in G, Schubert's Sonatina for Violin in D and Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 3 in D-minor.
