Drama group to re-run award-winning play

June 26, 2015

Class 7A Drama Group will re-run its award-winning play The Chalk Circle in China in August.

The play, adapted from the classic play The Caucasian Chalk Circle by dramatist Bertolt Brecht, was recognised as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Productions at the 20th Hong Kong Drama Awards.

The drama group will perform the play with minimalistic staging to make it reminiscent of the aesthetics of Chinese traditional theatre, as well as live music to link up the scenes.

The play is co-directed by Yatyau and Chan Ching-kwan, with Yatyau also as translator and adapter. The main cast includes Yip Chun, Rensen Chan, Grace Yuen, Angus Chan, Ida Leung, Ben So, Law Chung-kin, Ng Fung-ming, Char Kwok-lam, Sit Hoi-fai and Fung Chi-yau.

The story follows a raging war, which took place during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) in China. The prince's consort fled the palace, leaving behind her son who was found and raised by a servant girl. Conflict erupts when the mother returns years later and wants him back.

The performance is one of the programmes in the "Re-run Run Shows" series presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. It will be staged in Cantonese from August 14 to 16 at the Ko Shan Theatre New Wing.

Tickets are available at URBTIX.
