Orchids star of Flower Show

March 19, 2015

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2015 will be held at Victoria Park from tomorrow and will feature the oncidium variety of orchids as its theme.

More than 350,000 flowers including 8,000 pots of oncidiums will be showcased during the event.

Flower Show Committee Chairman Horace Chung told a press conference today that the oncidium is commonly known as the "dancing lady" because of its slender stem.

There are more than 700 species of oncidium orchids native to North and South America. It is commonly yellow, but also produces delicate flowers in an array of colours including magenta, apple green and pink, while some varieties are speckled with brown.

The theme of this year's show is "When Blossoms Dance" and more than 200 organisations from 18 countries will showcase exotic flowers, landscapes and floral displays.

The show will be open from 9am to 9pm until March 29.

Tickets are now available at Leisure & Cultural Services Department Leisure Link service points and will also be sold at the park entrance.
