Lectures to spotlight Verdi, Wagner

August 02, 2013
Tenor David Quah will host a lecture series on Verdi and Wagner in September, with live demonstrations accompanied by renowed pianist Timmy Tsang.

Quah will share his insights on the vocal music world of the two most influential opera composers of the 19th century.

Participants will listen to some of Verdi's songs in comparison to those of his contemporaries, and will also hear why Verdi's more well-known works are still popular today.

The lectures will then turn to Wagner's non-operatic works, and see how they became studies for his operas. Attendees will also explore the various myths that attracted Wagner and formed the backbone of his most important music dramas.

The four lectures, to be presented in Cantonese, will be held on September 4, 11, 18 and 25, at 7:30pmm in the Hong Kong Space Museum Lecture Hall. Tickets are $50 for each session, and are available from URBTIX outlets, online, and by credit-card telephone booking.
