Music-theatre production
Minamata: A Requiem by Kung Chi-shing and Kingsley Ng will be staged in June. It raises questions about the physical, moral and spiritual costs of environmental pollution.
In the 1950s, fishing villagers in Minamata, Japan, were poisoned by mercury in the water. Inspired by the moving photographs of Minamata victims, Kung and Ng have created this multimedia performance as a requiem for the earth and as a warning for our generation.
They will work with musicians, actors, and poets from Japan, the US, the UK and Hong Kong, to show the relevance of Minamata in modern times.
The show will be staged at 8pm on June 15 and 16, and at 3pm on June 16 at HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity.
