Employer fined for wage offences

September 06, 2017

Poshtanga Limited was fined $57,000 at Eastern Magistracy today for committing wage offences and defaulting on a sum awarded by the Labour Tribunal.

The company was also ordered to clear the outstanding sum of $27,500 to an employee.

It failed to pay wages to a worker within seven days after the expiry of the wage period and termination of employment, as required by the Employment Ordinance.

It also failed to pay the employee the awarded sum within 14 days after the payment date specified in the Labour Tribunal award.

The Labour Department said the ruling disseminates a strong message to all employers that they must pay wages and awarded sums as instructed by the Labour Tribunal and the Employment Ordinance.
