Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung says Hong Kong attaches great importance to protecting the interests of foreign domestic helpers and should not be affected by Indonesia’s planned restriction.
It has been reported that the country is planning to stop its citizens from working abroad as domestic helpers.
Mr Cheung told reporters today the Government is liaising with the Indonesian Consulate and understands that the proposed restriction does not apply to Hong Kong, and is awaiting confirmation.
Hong Kong’s efforts in protecting the interests of foreign domestic helpers is generally recognised by the Indonesian government, he added.
