Foster families commended

May 03, 2015

Director of Social Welfare Carol Yip has praised more than 300 families for their benevolence and commitment to foster care services run by the Social Welfare Department and non-governmental organisations.

Officiating at the Foster Families Service Award Presentation Ceremony 2015 today, she said, of the 323 award-winning families, about half of them have been serving for more than 10 years, while three of them have served for over 25 years.

"Foster care services, with the participation of the foster family, offer a warm home for children whose parents are temporarily unable to take care of them, and helps them overcome adversities.”

Ms Yip also thanked social workers from the 11 NGOs, which are providing foster care services.

Special awards were also given to families taking care of children with special needs.

As at end of March there were 931 registered foster families and 941 children receiving foster care services.
