Statutory paternity leave went into effect today, entitling new fathers to three days' paternity leave, the Labour Department announces.
A man with a child born after today can enjoy the leave if they have been employed under a continuous contract and have notified their employers in accordance with the law.
A new father is also entitled to leave pay if he was employed continuously for not less than 40 weeks immediately before the day of the leave.
Employees can take the leave at any time between four weeks before the expected delivery date to 10 weeks after the actual delivery date. The three days may be taken in one go or on separate days.
