Minority mission:  Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung attends a session for programme trainees.

Employment services target ethnic minorities

August 20, 2014

Ethnic minority members are an important source of manpower in Hong Kong, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said today, adding it is the Government's policy to facilitate their integration into society.

He spoke at a session for trainees in the Labour Department's new employment services ambassador programme, set up to bolster dedicated employment services for ethnic minorities.

It aims to enhance employability for young people from ethnic minorities by offering on-the-job training opportunities for trainees to work in the Labour Department's Job Centres and recruitment functions.

The department will also appoint 14 Employment Services Ambassadors for six months starting from September to reach out to job seekers.
