Study subsidy to launch

July 24, 2014

The Government will subsidise up to 1,000 students to pursue full-time local self-financing undergraduate programmes in selected disciplines from the 2015-16 academic year, to nurture talent to meet social and economic needs.

Acting Deputy Secretary for Education Pecvin Yong said the Government has identified key disciplines related to healthcare, the construction industry, testing and certification, the creative industry, logistics, and tourism and hospitality which have urgent demand for talent.

Five participating post-secondary institutions provide 13 programmes with 940 subsidised places under the scheme for the cohort to be admitted in 2015-16.

Subsidised allocation will mainly go through JUPAS - the Joint University Programmes Admissions System.

Students admitted to the subsidised places will get up to $70,000 during the programme, which is four to six years.
