July 02, 2014

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng visited Shanghai Fudan University with several hundred secondary school teachers and students in a Mainland exchange programme today.

Mr Ng also met young Hong Kong people who are studying, interning or working in Shanghai.

The visit is part of the Education Bureau’s exchange programme to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Passing on the Torch programme.

Mr Ng and 660 teachers and students attended the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square in Beijing yesterday. They also visited the Great Hall of the People and were received by Vice-President Li Yuanchao.

Mr Ng then led 330 of the teachers and students to Shanghai by high-speed train, while the rest went to Tianjin.

They later listened to former national basketball team player Yao Ming talk about his life experiences.

Mr Ng will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
