Family-friendly employers commended

June 19, 2014

Employers' support is critical for helping employees to balance work and family responsibilities, says Chief Secretary Carrie Lam.

Speaking at the 2013/14 Family-Friendly Employers Award Scheme presentation ceremony today, Mrs Lam praised employers for adopting diversified family-friendly practices.

In addition to paternity leave and a five-day work week, such practices included flexible working locations, child care and breastfeeding facilities at the workplace, scholarships for employees' children, and special holidays allowing flexible working hours to allow employees to attend parents' days at schools or take care of elderly family members.

Organised by the Family Council with support from the Home Affairs Bureau, the event commended a total of 1,763 corporations, enterprises and organisations as family-friendly employers. Among these, 91 were recognised as distinguished family-friendly employers for their outstanding achievements, while 22 received innovation awards and another 313 companies were awarded special mentions.

Mrs Lam said she hoped these employers' valuable experiences in implementing family-friendly practices could enhance public awareness and encourage more employers to adopt similar practices, to help develop positive family values.
