Wage check campaign starts

June 01, 2011
The Labour Department launched a special enforcement campaign today to safeguard employees’ rights and benefits.

Until June 15, labour inspectors will check 2,000 workplaces affected by the implementation of the Minimum Wage Ordinance.

Officers today checked 248 workplaces, of which employees in two cases suspected their salaries were lower than the statutory minimum wage. The cases are being investigated.

Inspectors conducted 3,000 workplace inspections last month. Employees in 28 cases felt their wage rates were lower than the statutory level.

Employees can file complaints via the 2815 2200 hotline. For enquiries call 2717 1771.
