Pedestrian safety campaign set

December 07, 2017

Police will strictly enforce traffic laws in a citywide campaign targeting pedestrians from December 8 to 12 to boost road-safety awareness.

Officers will issue a summons to any pedestrian jaywalking or committing other serious traffic offences.

They will also distribute publicity leaflets to remind pedestrians to comply with road rules.

In the first 10 months of this year there were 2,650 pedestrian casualties, 167 less than in the same period last year. Of the 55 who died, 29 were aged 65 or above.

During the same period last year, of the 64 people who died, 37 were elderly.
