Three men have been jailed for conspiracy to engage in corrupt conduct in the 2015 District Council Election.
Cheng Wing-kin, 32, a waiter and a former internet radio host, was sentenced to four-years' imprisonment, while Ku Ka-ho, 33, a renovator, received two-and-a-half years, and Chan Kin-loong, 38, a merchant, received two years and four months.
They met on July 12 and 19 last year and conspired together for Ku to accept from Cheng a sum of money between $150,000 and $200,000 to get Chan to stand as a candidate in an election constituency.
Cheng also offered at least $850,000 in bribes to five other people for getting candidates to stand in the election, but was refused.
Judge Pang Chung-ping said bribery in an election is a serious offence and undermines public confidence in the electoral system.
He said the court must send out a clear message to the public that offenders will be severely punished.
He also ordered Ku to pay $36,000 restitution to the Government.
